I knew right away what I would paint for the project of Reflections of Courage.
I based my painting on one sentence from the story of my Aunt Marie Silverman and her sister Jeannette Bornsteins's escape from Europe and the terrors of the Holocaust. It was simply put by Jeannette, "We hid during the day and we walked at night." I could feel her emotion and I quickly had a picture in my mind that I tried to portray in my painting.
I feel such admiration for the way they lived their lives, raised their families, built their futures, and continued to contribute to the world in such positive ways.
I love them both very much and dedicate this painting in their honor |
